AlphaMedic Consortium plans to invest about 250 million USD in rehabilitating three hospitals in Tbilisi, namely, Tbilisi Children’s Infectious Clinic Hospital, the former Republican Hospital and the Universal Medical Center (the former oncology center).
As part of the medical clinics development project, three companies had submitted applications for the Government-announced tender. However, only AlphaMedic Consortium had submitted officially the proposals.
The Austrian company introduced the clinics and primary health sector development concept to the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection and the Partnership Fund. The presentation was attended by Health Minister David Sergeenko and the Partnership Fund’s executive director David Saganelidze.
Leo McKenna, the AlphaMedic Consortium Bid Development Lead, noted that the company will invest about 250 million GEL in rehabilitation of three hospitals. The three hospitals will be accumulated in one place. The cooperation will last 36 months. The project is to improve health services and employ local residents, McKenna said.
“PPP is a communication and cooperation between the private sector and the state sector in this field to create and develop infrastructure in the direction of hospitals. The investment volume will make up about 250 million USD. The project will be financed from two sources – portion-based participation and loans that will be really directed to the PPP financial support.
These three hospitals will be accumulated in one place and this investment will be applied for developing this place. As to the project’s benefits: the project will improve the health services in Tbilisi, including local residents will be employed in the working process and new job places will be created”, Leo McKenna said.
As reported, the Partnership Fund has carried out feasibility studies for the state-owned clinics development project jointly with consulting company Global Alliance (Global Alliance for Health and Social Compact). The feasibility studies included Tbilisi Children’s Infectious Clinical Hospital, real estate on the territory of the former Republican Hospital and JSC Universal Medical Center (the former oncology center).
Based on this research, the government announced a tender, where three companies submitted applications, including AlphaMedic Consortium.
Under the tender terms, the winner company is obliged to draw investments and develop a medical clinics development concept, develop a outpatient network equipped with high-technology medical equipments. It should be noted this project will be the first joint project of cooperation between the private and state sectors.
