Manana Nachkebia, one of the leaders of “New Right” responds to pharmaceutical market issue, and noted, that any subsidy, eventually harms both state and society.
Only populists are making such statements, that the state takes responsibility for everything. We have to wait for the stabilization of the exchange rate, but the waiting does not mean being passive. First of all, the state has to determine the impact of external factors and take preventive measures to make depreciation of exchange rate less painful for people.
Second, and most important, is to improve the overall economic aspects and ensure investment inflows to the country, to increase export potential. Creating jobs for people will enable them to purchase medicines with their incomes. This is how I imagine a normal state “, Nachkhebia says.
“I do not think that, today this problem is resolved. Obviously, the high cost of drugs is caused by the fact that there is no healthy competition on pharmaceutical market”.
Also, issue of quality of drugs, that are available on market is very important.
We would like drug quality to be correspondent to prices. If Ministry of Health takes actions in this direction, it will be very beneficial for the overall Healthcare system.
