Ex-French foreign and health Minister Bernard Kouchner visited Tbilisi under his new mandate as Chairman of the Global Alliance. Kouchner’s visit aimed at evaluating Georgia’s current and implemented healthcare reforms.
Member of Georgian Parliament Eliso Chapidze assessed Mr. Kouchner’s visit:
Kouchner is not only a great French politician, but also a great humanitarian of our century. He founded organizations such as; “Doctors without boarders” and Médecins du Monde, which aim at solving global issues.
Eliso Chapidze evaluates Kouchner’s visit and emphasizes two important aspects, one is the diplomat’s humility: “He showed great courage during Russia-Georgia war in 2008, he saved many of Georgian citizens in Gori and other towns, that is why his visit has such big importance,” Eliso Chapidze added.
Parliamentarian assesses Kouchner’s involvement in Georgia’s healthcare reforms and thinks it will have positive outcomes. Eliso Chapidze hopes that Georgia’s Healthcare system will be more socially oriented.
People do not need to sell houses to cover their treatment costs, first three years of healthcare reforms were especially hard for the Georgian budget, however, the Minister’s direction and his goal is absolutely right. The State needs to strengthen its primary healthcare system, which is the guarantor of prolonging lives and health of our citizens,” Eliso Chapidze concluded.
