Drug Control in Georgia Does Not Comply with EU Standards – Archil Morchiladze

The Executive Secretary of Medical Association Archil Morchiladze assessed drug control in Georgia in an interview with CBW. He stressed that currently drug control in Georgia does not comply with EU standards.

“Some drug control takes place in Georgia, however, it does not comply with the EU standards. Therefore, the Ministry aims to reach a standard in quality of generic drugs compatible with that of the western European countries.”

“As we have been informed, a construction of a drug quality control laboratory is underway. The laboratory will contribute to the emergence of new, cheaper and better generic drugs in Georgia. The introduction of foreign pharmaceutical companies on the market will also contribute to creating a healthy competition in this field,” Archil Morchiladze says.

The European Union and the Member States have developed together, over the past two decades, a European approach to addressing drug sustainability. Georgia needs to develop the same model as well. Some drug quality control takes place in Georgia today, but it happens sporadically and not in an efficient way, says the Medical Association Executive Secretary.
